Frequently Asked Questions

Consultations

Does Tabono Law offer free consultations?

We charge $200 for a 30-minute consultation with a family law attorney to discuss your situation and explore your legal options. This fee is due at the time of scheduling. You can schedule your consultation by calling (231) 894-0909 or submitting our contact form.

How should I prepare for my consultation?

To make the most of your meeting, watch our consultation preparation video. It outlines what to bring, what to expect, and how to prepare your questions so we can use your time efficiently.

Are consultations only held in person?

For your convenience, we offer in-person, phone, and video consultations. You can meet with an attorney at our Muskegon office or choose a virtual option that fits your schedule.

Fees and Retainers

How much will hiring an attorney at Tabono Law cost?

After your $200 consultation, your attorney will determine a retainer amount based on the complexity of your case. The retainer acts as a down payment for legal services and must be paid before we begin work.

Your total legal costs will depend on your case’s unique circumstances, as all attorneys and legal staff bill at hourly rates. Keep in mind that your final fees may exceed your initial retainer, depending on how your matter develops.

What is a retainer?

A retainer is an upfront payment that secures the services of a lawyer or law firm. These funds are kept in a trust account and used to pay for work as it’s completed. When the retainer is depleted, additional funds may be requested. If any money remains after your case is resolved, it will be refunded to you.

How much is a retainer at Tabono Law?

Your retainer amount is determined after your initial consultation, once we understand the details of your case and how much time and work it will require.
